Associate Your Domain Name With Your Affiliate Link To Rank Better
Ever wonder how some businesses online seem to do so well with their affiliate marketing? Are you afraid that you are losing sales due to someone poaching your affiliate link online? One of the affiliate techniques is to take your long and often hard to remember affiliate link and associate it with your domain name. If, you don’t have a domain name, you should go here to register one and while you’re at it, be sure to register your name if it’s available. Anyone who sees their future making money online, should at some point own their name online too!
The biggest advantage for having your affiliate links associated with your domain name is that if the person doesn’t purchase from you for whatever reason, they may visit your website just out of curiosity and that’s a good thing if your content is compelling enough and offers something of value.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to take your affiliate link and associate it with your domain name.
Step 1
You will need your domain name that you are going to associate with your affiliate link. If, you need to purchase a domain name, you can do so from the advertisers on this page who help to support this site or you can go here.
Step 2
You are going to need to use an HTML Editor, such as Windows Notepad or the free open-source web author and html editor, NVU or whichever html editor you prefer.
Note: Some hosting accounts allow you to put the script directly into the body of your “New File” or “New Directory,” without the need to use an HTML Editor. So, you may want to check your domain account prior to going to Step 3.
Step 3
Open your html editor and copy and paste this script:
<HTML>
<Script>top.location.href=”YourAffiliateLinkAddressHere.com”</Script>
</HTML>
Place the affiliate link your promoting in between the quotation marks and be sure to leave the quotation marks in place.
Step 4
Go to your account where your domain is hosted and click on its “public_html” folder. (Some hosting services use “index.html.”)
Step5
Go to your account where your domain is hosted and click on its “public_html” folder. (Some hosting services use “index.html.”)
Next, within your “public_html” or “index.html” folder of the domain you wish to associate with your affiliate link, click on “New File;” Note, that some hosting services may use the term, “New Directory,” for “New File.”
Step 6
You will have to put the name you want for your “New File” or “New Directory” name. For your “New File” or “New Directory” name, choose something that is short, relevant to the affiliate link, but most of all something that people will remember easily. For example: workathomepedia.com/New_File.txt becomes workathomepedia.com/blogmastermind or something like that.
For some hosting services you will have to click the “Save” button before you’re allowed to continue, while other hosting services allow you to go on to Step 7 and place the script into the body of your “New File” and then click “Save.”
If, your hosting service requires you to “Save” your newly-named “File or Directory,” before going on to Step 7, click the “Save” button and then look for the name of your newly-created “File or Directory” and click on the “Edit” tab in order to put the script in the body of your newly-named “File or Directory.”
Step 7
Take your script with your affiliate link from your html editor and paste your script into the body of your “New File” (New Directory). Click the “Save” button.
Step 8
Open another “Tab” within your web browser and test your new affiliate link to make sure that it’s working okay. If, it works then you’re done. If, it doesn’t work, review the “Steps” once again for possible errors.
Step 9
If, you’re finished with your affiliate links, be sure to record your file names associated with each affiliate link (and log out of your hosting account). This may seem trivial, but if you have over 25 or more affiliate links with different file names associated with your domain names, it could present a bit of a challenge later.
Now, imagine having one day 100 or more domain names and websites with 1,000 file names associated with your 1,000 affiliate links, what are your chances of you remembering what file name represents which affiliate programs? Take the time to record the file names somewhere; it’ll save you a lot of time and grief later. Until, the fingers meet the keyboard again, Take Care!
