How To Locate Similar Websites or Blogs

Have you ever gone to a website that you love so much and wish to know if there were sites just like the one you love so much?  Well, I have and I’ve put together a short post of where you can go online and find sites just like the one you like so much.  These are websites and web browser plug-ins that will match you with websites and blogs that are very similar to what you put in the search box.  For example, when I put the online classified site, Craigslist.org in the search box, I get Backpage, Olx, Classifieds For Free, BlurbPage and Google Base.  Here are websites and web browser plug-ins that will help you locate those sites.

Similar Sites

Similar Sites has a sister-site which ends in a .com extension and using both, you’re likely to get served similar search returns or something uniquely different, but useful.

Be sure to check out at the top of the page, the Tab, “Today’s Additions,” which gives you a list of websites that were added to the Similar Sites database.  Many of the sites in the “Today’s Additions” are rather interesting and worth a look.

Sites Like

Sites Like gives you the benefits of discovering new sites and tagging them.  You can rate and share the sites you think are similar also.

SimilarSites

Just like its .net sister site, but with varying results that will pleasantly surprise you.

SimilarWeb

SimilarWeb is actually a browser plugin for Mozilla’s FireFox web browser that allows you to see icons of the similar website as you are surfing the Internet.  You can add similar sites as you are surfing, rank the websites that appear, based on relevancy and you have the option to share websites with others.

XMarks

XMarks is both web-based and has a web browser plug-in option for FireFox, Internet Explorer and Safari, that will takes your Google searches and gives you the top three user-tagged results with the ability to backup and sync your information across all your computers.

XMarks web-based search is a bit clever in that when you put in a website that you’re interested in, it will return a list of user-tagged sites that are similar and if you look at the bottom of the description for each website that is suggested, you will see a blue link that says, “View Similar Sites,” by all means click on this link and you’ll be get another list of similar sites for that website and it goes on and on, until there are no more new sites that you aren’t familiar with appearing.  This is a great way to discover websites and blogs that you may not have known about previously.

Remember that the opportunity to discover similar websites and new websites and blogs, give you a tremendous edge over your competitors in business when you use that knowledge in your marketing efforts.  For example, you can gain a wider audience when you use social media-like sites to establish relationships with others and when you discover a host of other sites that are social media-like.  Use these sites to discover other sites that you’re interested in and reward your marketing efforts.
